My last two were over $200 each. The tires needed to be replaced because the nail hole was too close to the sidewall to properly patch.

Mine's flat now because of this. Fortunately I found a self-employed mechanic who is doing it for free. People are willing to help if you ask.

Last two punctures I've had were through the sidewall area of the tire, and were not repairable. If I had a puncture through the tread area, I'd look for a service shop that used the hot patch process. Might cost an additional $5 or so, but the tire (in my opinion) would be much easier to balance, and much more reliable

My wife's car encountered a nail in the left front tire. A local tire dealer fixed it (patch not plug) and balanced it for free. I had not been there since 2001.

I got a key stuck in my car tire. The tread was gone so I just chucked it.

A flat in Columbus will cost you $30.00. They are just as greedy with their gas too.

One time I fixed it myself. Two other times it was like $10. That's includes a valve stem leak caused by an automatic carwash.
I now get free flat repairs from Costo, and also have coupons which don't expire for free flat repairs from PepBoys and a local shop.

Roofing nails seem to be the prime cause of punctures. If the sidewall has ANY damage then you need a new tire. If you do high speed travel, you need a new tire. Otherwise, a repair/plug (for radial or newer model tires)should not be expensive,

Sam's Club does free repairs for members. I bought one pair of tires from my local discount tire, and the manager told me since I was a customer now if I needed tire repairs on any of my vehicles it would be free.

A local chain advertises that they will fix a tire for free but they fail to inform you that they charge you to balance the tire.

It has been many years since I had a punctured tire. It was repaired free (plugged), on the vehicle, under the road hazard warranty.
When I worked in the garage, I did a great many tire repairs. Some tires are not repairable (even if they can be fixed, the repairs would be unsafe and unreliable). Tires with ply separations and sidewall damage replacement are examples. Some tires can be patched, as mentioned by other gas buddies, but the wheel should be rebalanced. Patches do not generally work well on radial tires where the belt ends at the sidewall (too much flexing). The only solution here is an inner tube or a tire replacement. Plugs usually work well for a nail puncture in the tread area down to the wearbar 2/32".
On additional note is the use of Fix-A-Flat or Slime. It is nearly impossible to patch a tire once these products are used as they make the surface adhesion difficult.

I've driven for many years, don't remember the price range I've encountered but it has been fairly wide. One time, I took my car in to have the tires rotated and I got it back with a couple of dollars additional charge (this was a long time ago). Explanation was they found a nail in the tire. The nail was attached to the service order.
Usually nowadays when I get a nail it ruins the tire. And that can get expensive.

I got a few of them in my tires in a short period of time back in 1996, it was the only time ever and I always wondered how it was happening. I think it cost me about $20 each time, happened 4 or 5 times.

I've been charged as low a $7.50 for a plug, and as much as $15 for a patch, which I prefer the patch, even though it costs a bit more.
