It's sorta like mastermind, only because this is using common words, there isn't anything telling you the placement of the letters. NOTE to Authors: Be careful not to have duplicate letters like the word "fence". Also, don't get cute with proper nouns, etc. Players can have a hard time with common words just as easily as quirky ones. Here is an example game with the word "MANGE": U L T R A - 1 N E W S Y - 2 Y E A S T - 2 S P A R K - 1 T R A M P - 2 S T O R M - 1 A L O N E - 3 N E A R S - 3 From the 4th and 8th words guessed (SPARK & NEARS) you can see that both "E" and "N" are in the word. Eliminating "K" and "P". From the 2nd word (NEWSY), eliminate the letters "S", "W", and "Y". From the 3rd and 4th words (YEAST & SPARK), either "A" or "T" and "A" or "R" is correct. Since both "R" and "T" cannot be correct from the first word (ULTRA), then "A" must be correct, and you can eliminate "L", "R", "T", "U". From the 5th word (TRAMP), "M" must be correct also, and from the 6th word (STORM) eliminate the "O". So, we have "A","E","M",and "N" and available are "B C D F G H I J Q V X Z ". E N A C T - 3 Eliminated the "C". A M E N D - 4 Eliminated the "D". M A N E H - 4 Eliminated the "H". F L A M E - 3 Eliminated the "F". M A N G E - Answer found!!! Okay, let's play!!!

Here is an example game with the word "MANGE":

U L T R A - 1
N E W S Y - 2
Y E A S T - 2

From the 4th and 8th words guessed (SPARK & NEARS) you can see that both "E" and "N" are in the word. Eliminating "K" and "P".
From the 2nd word (NEWSY), eliminate the letters "S", "W", and "Y".
From the 3rd and 4th words (YEAST & SPARK), either "A" or "T" and "A" or "R" is correct. Since both "R" and "T" cannot be correct from the first word (ULTRA), then "A" must be correct, and you can eliminate "L", "R", "T", "U".
From the 5th word (TRAMP), "M" must be correct also, and from the 6th word (STORM) eliminate the "O".
