Gasoline prices took a breather in parts of the country this week, with some areas that had seen a slow rise in price rise more rapidly, while other areas, such as California and Florida took a respite from rising prices. The national average rose just four cents per gallon over the last week, coming in at $3.76/gallon.

So who were the big winners and losers, and what are we expecting this week at the pump? Below we'll lay out the winners, although I'm sure I'll get quite a few people correctly pointing out there aren't any winners when it comes to high gasoline prices...

Winners- areas that saw prices drop the most:
Maine, prices down 2.7c/gal in the last week
Vermont, prices down 2.4c/gal in the last week

Gas seems to be dropping much faster than the diesel prices.

Notice how "winners" prices droped a couple of pennies at most, but "Losers" rose 10 - 20 cents.. big difference...

Nope, the breather is over. The national average increased twice over the weekend and now stands at $3.80 per gallon.

Yes MacDad; when I traveled to N.C. for Xmas, Atlanta gas could be found for $2.99 at many locations. Now we are $3.69 at most stations. ($3.62 lowest in my area)

Some people report gas prices as being high, others report them as being low.

In town or uptown are usually HIGH.

We in metro Atlanta are still paying about 70 cents more per gallon than we were in December - for no REAL reason.

Gasbuddy is wrong, there are some winners with higher prices but not most of us. Check the bank accounts of Wall Street speculators and the oil industry executives and I will bet that their cash flows are not suffering.

My area was higher than that National average. Could not find any reason for it to be so, either.

It seems like the losers lost bigger than the winners that had smaller drops.

$4.01 in Troy Illinois! $3.99 here in Wood River, home of a ConocoPhillips refinery that uses Alberta oil sands oil. No savings or bargains, just higher gas prices!!
