Candy Burnett is an extreme commuter; (90 minutes each way from her home in Lynchburg, VA to her job in Rocky Mount) so her gas mileage is critical to her.

And for the past two or three years, she's been filling up at stations that sell pure, ethanol-free gas, according to the Lynchburg News and Advance.

"It's good for the car; it gets better mileage," she said. She even said that when she takes her car in for regular maintenance she's told that her engine looks cleaner.

In her area some retailers sell both E-10, the regular gas that contains up to 10% ethanol, and, ethanol-free fuel. One retailer who just started selling 90-octane ethanol-free gas only two weeks ago says he has growing customer demand for...

Ethanol has differing solubilities and stirs up the gas tank dirtying up the engine or clogging the filter. Ruined my lawnmower. Now I drive out of my way to buy pure gas.

Just looking for something to nit pick about I checked the millage on my car a few times to see if that little computer gadget was actually correct. It was right on. Which I mention to say this: When I use EO gas it usually cost about 10 (3%) cents/gal more but my millage increases about 2.5 (10%) MPG. A few apples and oranges here I admit. I have to go out of town to get it--living out in the middle of nowhere and 5 of the 6 gas stations here have shut down now. Since I now have to "haul" gas for my boat and lawn care equipment anyway I keep track of where these EO stations are in my area.

Right rjhenn -- same confusing pricing in ND -- and none of the station attendants can tell you anything.

Agree on the coast you can get ethanol free (marine gas) but it's a buck higher. Try pure-gas.org for list of E0's. There are web sites out there for local and for traveling stations.

wished there were still stations here that would sell E0. Would be happy to buy it. The last station I knew that sold EtOH-free gasoline traded owners and the new (no longer independent) corporation owner phased E0 out pretty fast.

Funny, here in the heart of ethanol country, most gas stations sell regular (E0), plus (E10) and premium (E10). Plus is cheapest, then regular, then super (which means that many who don't pay attention post prices for regular as midgrade and vice versa).

The only stations I've seen that don't sell regular (E0) sell a "super premium" that's E10 and a couple of octane higher than premium.

Though I suspect that even regular has a bit of ethanol in it, to replace MTBE.

EtOH has never been the answer and will not be the answer. if it is, the question has been asked in the wrong manner.

In Canada- reg gas = 10%, mid grade gas = 5%, hi test = 0% ethanol >>>>but does it ever cost.

Why will the gov't announce their subsidy for corn growers etc & producers of ethanol >>> and how about the gas/diesel/ethanol required to produce ethanol. Loss of farmland to corn also hurts our food bill.

Bottom line >> keep the farmers and the enviroment activists happy at any cost

I can only find one station in my area that has real gas anymore.

I can't blame them for trying, but admit the ethanol isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Same here in Houston. No ethanol-free gas. I think somewhere near the border of TX and OK on I35 in TX part, there is 1 gas station that sells ethanol-free gasolines, all 3 grades.

I've ALWAYS purchased ethanol free gasoline when it was available. Unfortunately here in Colorado it became a state law to blend in 10% ethanol in all gasoline sold since the late 1980s and ethanol free fuels went the way of the dinosaur (pun intended). The extra cost of NOT having this corrosive garbage in your car would be more than offset in most cases by the extra mileage and better/longer lasting engines.

That's why there are products on the market that are sold to reduce the negative effects on ethanol fuels.

I agree that "Local governments should find better things to do than worry about what kind of gas you choose to run your car or truck. It's your business and nobody else's."

BAN ETHANOL NOW (AND THE EPA FOR THAT MATTER)

Ethanol-free gas is the best. I'm having to "treat" the junkanol I'm getting now with additive just for the truck to run decent.

My 08 STS gets nearly 10% greater mileage on ethanol-free gas. At $4.00 a gallon, the "break even" cost point would be nearly $4.40 a gallon - not to mention the other benefits.

The only true way out of the ethanol mess is to change the law that requires it. You can bet the corn states will fight that cob and kernel all the way. I think they see the end of ethanol is coming since the $.45 cents per gallon subsidy ended on 1/1/2012. Contact your local polititions and tell them to rescind the ethanol law.

If ethanol is so costly in maintenance and mileage, we should stop using it, it would make the price of corn go down as well.

This group of folks are worse than Lemmings (they don't have a clue) Ethanol is the worst fuel in the history of mankind, expensive to make, MPG inefficient, will corrode anything it touches because of high water content, drives up food prices, and on and on.

Here in Florida, I am fortunate there are places that sell ethanol free gasoline because I live near the Gulf Coast and therefore marine engines need it. I’ve been to several places that sell ethanol free gasoline and the sign on the pumps says "Recreational Fuel” only for boats, motorcycles, small engines (lawn equipment) and classic vehicles, but the station operators don’t really enforce it. I run 3 of my cars on non-ethanol gas. The youngest car is 7 years old, the second youngest is 15 years old, and the oldest is 29 years old (almost a classic).
Ever since I’ve been running them on ethanol free gasoline, they have been averaging 3 to 4 MPG better than when I was using E-10. In other words, the true MPG they should be getting before ethanol was added several years ago. The cost may be a .15 to .20 cents higher than the average prices in my local city and surrounding areas, but for me I think it’s worth it.
As long as they keep selling, I’ll keep buying no matter how high the price goes because I can afford it.
