Honda recalls 2012 Civics; driveshaft assembly could fail

GasBuddy Blog -- Honda announced this week that the left driveshaft in approximately 50,000 2012 Honda Civic vehicles might have been assembled incorrectly and could come apart, separating from the CV joint that connects the driveshaft to the wheel.

The potential number of affected vehicles is estimated at 50,190. Documentation from Honda indicates that approximately up to 8.4 percent of the vehicles in the recall may contain the condition.

Honda says it is voluntarily recalling the Civic vehicles in the United States to inspect and, if necessary, replace the left driveshaft. If separation from the CV joint occurs, the engine will no longer propel the vehicle in any gear, and the vehicle may roll away if the parking brake has not been...

Honda failure rates seem to be increasing rapidly. They used to be a reliable car.

This what we get from foreign manufactures. Crappy cheap vehicles and profits that are shipped back to Japan.

Fix the drive shaft problem and get those vehicles back on the road ASAP. I have driven Honda's for many years and usually they have no problems.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe and reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

This isn't really very newsworthy - all car companies, and all models have issues - Honda does seem to have identified specifically the cars affected and is dealing with it, so the posting here is mostly an opportunity for the boo-birds to crow at Honda. And I'm not saying this because I'm a Honda fan - my choice in this class of cars would be the new Ford Focus or Mazda 3 SkyActive.

This is what responsible Companies do. I know this is a big black eye for Honda but in the long run people remember when they have actually been dealt with fairly and will continue to buy from a responsible Company.

Being proactive and correcting deficiencies when found is one way you get reliability. Being proactive avoids the unexpected failures.

Minor issue affecting a very small percentage. Every car manufacturer has a recall every now and then. And Honda is stepping forward to take care of it.

Saw this yesterday. Guess what? It's not only American cars that have problems. The Japanese ones are just as bad, if not worse.
