Summer travel: Gas prices may keep some drivers off road

Corning Leader -- Cheaper gas prices won’t be enough to get more people on the road this summer.

Marty Jones, of Elmira, said he, his wife Carrie and their three children have often traveled to South Florida for an annual summer vacation, but gas prices will change that this summer.

“Because of the gas prices, they’re too high, and the economy as a whole, we’re going to do something different this year,” Jones said.

He and his family plan to travel to Niagara Falls later this summer.

“It’s closer than Florida, it will cost less in gas and I’m sure it will be a good time,” Jones said.

Many Americans share that point of view on gas prices, the economy as well as job security.

Economists and tourism experts are expecting only a small uptick in summer
travelers.

Gas prices are lower, but still high

Tale of Tucson, AZ.

while gasoline futures have dropped at Wall Street from 3.41$ to 2.87$
gasoline prices in Tucson have dropped from 3.76 to 3.65$ a gallon.
this is just ridiculous.

A drop of 10-20c's will not do the trick. A drop of $.50-$1.00g can only be the only one we will recognize.

"Cheaper gas prices won’t be enough to get more people on the road this summer."

I hope that is true.

We don't need more people on the roads just because it is summer.

More people on the roads = more gasoline used.

More gasoline used = depleted inventories.

Depleted inventories = high gasoline prices.

It is simple enough math so that even the 'road trip' dummies should be able to understand.

Gee, do you think? The combination of gas still well over $3.50 in most areas, high prices on everything every where and the economy generally in the crapper with REAL unemployment probably at or over 20%. You think that might keep some people home? Bet it won't interfere with the Obozo's next vacation - largely at our expense. NObama 2012.

Even if the price of gas goes down, it's still hurting the tourist industry.

If they would just quit being greedy, then everyone could see better times and the money would be spread around, it's all about the wheel, lower the gas prices and more can benefit, but they can;t see that because they are blinded by greed.

No trips- money spent on gas doesn't leave money for daily cost of living plus food, etc. No money due gas prices also means no money spent on the road. Be nice to go places and be part of the tourists spending money to
help all the business to places where we used to go (before the current administration) but no more until we get a new president and rid of some the greed and crap coming out of W.D.C.
