Not sure what Americans they are talking about, maybe the rich. Those of us barely making it are spending less at the grocery store so that we can spend our money at the gas station to get to work.

Everyone else in the developed nations pays higher gas prices. Why wouldn't the US able to do the same?

So many good posts here on this one, and we should pump this baby up to the top! Fullcirclethink and dhdiesel, how true what they and so many others have said.

Geithner is a BANKING guy, formerly of Goldman Sachs, formerly of the Fed, he's rich, out of touch with most of us. Obama got a good portion of his money running for office from the Bankers and other elitist, but so do the others. However, just as there were some people in government like Geithner from the banking sector under Clinton, there we more under Bush and now there's many more under Obama! These people don't have our interests at heart, only to make themselves and their friends wealthier!

How I hope that many more wake the hell up! Republicans aren't the answer though, and you'll have to vote for real people, not attorneys and bankers or even big business people or professional politicians to see change happen for the good!

Folks when you have OUR Government Officials saying that it is ok to have EXCESSIVELY HIGH FUEL PRICES & that the USA can handle those EXCESSIVE HIGH OR HIGHER PRICES is reckless & violates The OATH OF OFFICE that Secretary Geithner, Secretary Chu & President Obama took prior to taking the office...

The Oath that is given to ALL Military Personnel, Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Cabinet Members, Senators, Congressmen & or Congresswomen, Civil Service Employees & all who work directly for The U.S. Government...ALL who freely take THE OATH OF OFFICE state that they will support & defend the U.S. Constitution & ALL laws & that they will not set personal goals & or agendas above WE THE PEOPLE...

Violation of The Oath of Office has serious penalties under The United States Code & removal from their position is THE MINIMUM PENALTY!

Maybe it is time for The Current Administration to sit down & really read THE OATH that they took when they freely accepted the positions!

Goldman-Sachs & many other MAJOR corporations have too much power over both the Republican & Democrats & both parties have been guilty of violating THE OATH OF OFFICE many times since 2001 but this is the WORST I have seen & I have seen a bunch in 59 years!

It is time for ALL the people Republican & Democrat to UNITE, SPEAK OUT & SPEAK UP against policies that harm the USA & The American People!

Hopefully you will all agree...

KKimes,

USA Refinery Production rates are down from the 92-94% percent rates of just 5 years ago to 52-56% percent in 2011-2012...

Demand is DOWN...SUPPLIES ARE UP so prices should be much lower but they are not!

We have been & currently are exporting both USA Crude Oil & USA Refined gasoline, diesel & other fuels & products to foreign markets making prices at the pump even higher!

POINT IS that there is plenty of crude oil & we do not need EXCESSIVE HIGH PRICES AT THE PUMP NOW when OUR USA Economy is in a bad way...

WE also DO NOT NEED TO bankrupt the poor & middle class just to get a GREEN AGENDA GOING!

Me thinks that President Obama & HIS Administration should remember how he was voted in to office & who voted for him!

Economists was polled this week end & THE GREATEST THREAT to the USA Economy was EXCESSIVE HIGH FUEL PRICES!

G20 is meeting & they have said the The USA & World Economy has hit a ROUGH PATCH...

Folks cannot buy other things if they are spending a lot at the pump or buying another new vehicle that many cannot afford to buy or make payments on!

FACT - The MAJORITY of American Citizens & Consumers cannot afford to pay EXCESSIVE HIGH PRICES AT THE PUMP OR FOR FOOD!

FACT - The MAJORITY of USA Citizens & Consumers also cannot afford to go out buy an electric car, hybrid, LPG or CNG vehicle either due to price, availability or the ability of that vehicle to meet their needs!

Face it folks hybrids are not the answer until plug in hybrid becomes available in numbers...

Electric cars also are not the answer due to limited range & lack of charging stations & electrical production limits...

LPG & CNG have serious merit but it would take 7-10 years just to get a marginal number of fuelling stations to make them worth the effort...

Now saying the USA can take HIGHER fuel prices to make a GREEN AGENDA more attractive to SOME POTENTIAL CONSUMERS is like putting Lipstick on a pig!

All you get is a different looking pig...

FACT - Risk to The USA Economy & WE THE PEOPLE is just too great!

President Obama is trying to get GREEN MONEY, BIG OIL MONEY & FINANCIAL MARKET & SPECULATOR & TRADERS MONEY...

Time to Wake Up America & see that WE THE PEOPLE OR THE GREAT MAJORITY are being taken for saps, suckers, fools & chumps by NOT speaking out against such talk & policy by OUR GOVERNMENT!

Well, you can face it or ignore it, but the fact is true that the world is starting to run low on affordable fossel fuel. The sooner we find useable alternatives, the longer fossel fuel can be around for those who really need it. I just bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid. Sure it cost more up front, but I'll use half the gas I did with my last car. Imagine the effect it would have if everyone could do that.

Not sure where this info came from. I see myself as a person representative of the general population and I KNOW I can't keep up with rising gas prices, and I live in as state that is relatively stable compared to the coastlines of our nation!

What a moron! Geither is wealthy and doesn't understand the plight of the poor. The inflation stats don't include the price of fuel/gas in the calculations. BS that is purposely stewed by the government.

US can handle higher gas prices, but a what risk, Geithner. At the risk of what; what are you willing to sacrifice; your economy, leadership of the free world.
maybe you can handle higher prices, however can the working poor of America handle the daily grind, that you obviously aren't in tune with. Idiot!
